During our 6 year relationship, we have been to a number of interesting places together including a boat trip along the south coast of Turkey with 8 strange people, a ride in a horse drawn carriage around the council estates in Dublin, a “hotel by the hour” in Paris, a rave in the middle of a field in India where all you could buy was eggs and toilet paper, a B&B in Dorset where we had to share a single bed with 6 cats and 8 spiders, a house in Corsica with smeared hand prints on the mirrors and bars on the windows, the public showers in Great Yarmouth marina, Darryll’s dad’s flat, and the Anfield Stadium in Liverpool, to name the good ones. This is how our adventure began…
Once upon a time (well in April 2002 actually) we were both working in Tiger Tiger Croydon. Melissa was a company trainer, which meant that she trained all new members of staff in cocktail making and one of her groups of trainees included a very fit guy called Darryll…need we say more?
After only a month of seeing each other we started living together at Darryll’s mum’s house until we moved to Caterham where we had our first little furry kitten together, Mr. May, and Melissa started reading for her degree. We spent 3 years in Caterham in a house belonging to a strange man called Mike who lived on his own with his monkey.
After Melissa’s final university exam, we completed on the purchase of our first place together which was in the Old Courtyard in Bromley where we made some very good friends and we built a wall together.
In September 2006 Melissa bought Darryll a quad biking experience in Royal Tunbridge Wells for his birthday. We got there early so Melissa dragged Darryll into the town centre for some shopping (of course!). That was the first time we had visited Royal Tunbridge Wells and we fell in love with the place instantly.
On 27th December 2006, Darryll had booked an appointment with the “Venture” photography team in Bromley for a photo shoot because we wanted some nice photos to put up in our home as a Christmas gift to ourselves. Melissa was feeling very ill that day and Darryll had to keep changing the time of the shoot throughout the day in the hope that she would feel better. Melissa couldn’t figure out why Darryll was so reluctant to change the date of the photo shoot but she later found out…
We finally made it to the studio later that evening and we had a great time. At the end of the shoot, the photographer said “you have 5mins left, why don’t you do something romantic?” Suddenly, Darryll got down on one knee and proposed! Although he may have regretted it the following day when he woke up next to “Frog Woman” because Melissa had had an allergic reaction to the bubble bath in the hotel and her eyes were so swollen she could hardly open them!
On 27th January 2007 we had our Engagement party in Tiger Tiger Croydon (for old times’ sake). Then we sold our flat in Bromley to buy a family home in Royal Tunbridge Wells where we now live with our two furry monsters Oliver and Angus. Then we lived happily ever after… (until we started planning our wedding!)
